Singer-songwriter Marriani Fleming

Marriani Fleming has been singing for as long as she could talk. “Music was always just a really big part of my life,” Marriani said. “I was 2 years old when I crawled on a piano for the first time. My mom was like, ‘It was so weird, you didn’t slam the keys, you just pressed on them and listened to the sound.’ ” Twenty years later, Marriani is hoping to make music her full-time career.

Musical improv group Hart Health

Improv is so much more than comedy. “For me, improv is life,” said Julie Cotton of Elkhart. “It’s the principles of ‘Yes, and…’ and ‘How do I make my scene partner look amazing?’ It’s bringing your unique geniuses together. It’s the perfect dance of flow and acceptance and giving.” Julie is one-third of the improv musical group Hart Health. Though the group itself is new, together, they bring decades of performing experience.

Band Quite Frank Lee

For the bandmates of Quite Frank Lee, it’s as much about the friendship as the music. “There’s something to be said for like-minded people working together for a common goal,” said Scott Vaerewyck. “Music is a gift, but the friendship is a gift, too.” Quite Frank Lee formed in 2021 and is made up of Scott (vocals and guitar), Anna Naragon (vocals), Rob Booker (bass), Kyle Paulk (lead guitar) and Tony Leininger (drums/percussion).

Dancer Olivia Kruyer

For Olivia Kruyer, dance is all about expression. “You can express your words without saying anything, you can really express your feelings without talking – you do it all through dance,” she said. That’s one of the reasons she’s attracted to the styles she’ll showcase at Oaklawn’s Got Talent – contemporary and lyrical.
