Contest rules

Audition eligibility & performance requirements

  • Applications to audition must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021.
  • Auditions are open to residents from Elkhart County or St. Joseph County. Groups with members who live outside that area can participate as long as at least ONE member is a resident of Elkhart County or St. Joseph County.
  • Open to performers of any age or skill level. (Performers under 18 must have parent/guardian permission).
  • Employees of Oaklawn are ineligible to compete.
  • Performances should not exceed 7 minutes and should be appropriate for all ages.
  • Auditions will take place on the Lerner stage in a friendly atmosphere. A sound system will be available to play accompaniment tracks for performers – backing tracks for singers, music for dancers, etc. Musical acts should plan to perform “unplugged.” There will be microphones for singers, but not amplification for an entire band. If a band is selected to perform at Oaklawn’s Got Talent on May 20 at the Lerner, we will work with your group to accommodate your technical needs.
  • We have 30 time slots for auditions. In the case that more than 30 acts sign up to audition, our panel of three judges will choose which acts can audition based on event fit and quality (judged by submitted video).
  • Auditions are open for most talent performances (with some exceptions for safety). If you have questions regarding the eligibility of your specific act, contact Kari Tarman at kari.tarman@oaklawn.org. Oaklawn reserves the right to deny any act it deems unfit for the contest.

Release and indemnification

  • Participants and parents/guardians must sign a release and indemnification.

Contest structure

  • Auditions will be held Sunday, November 14, 2021, at the Lerner Theater in Elkhart. A panel of three judges will choose four acts to advance to Oaklawn’s Got Talent. Auditions will be closed to the public.
  • Oaklawn’s Got Talent will be held Friday, May 20, 2022, at the Lerner Theater, which will be open to the public (with tickets available for purchase) and Oaklawn donors. The winner of Oaklawn’s Got Talent will be selected by popular vote of the audience, calculated by online voting.

Agreements

  • Participants agree that, if selected, they will be available to participate in Oaklawn’s Got Talent on Friday, May 20, 2022, at the Lerner Theater in Elkhart, including a meet-and-greet with donors that will begin at 5:30 p.m. and performances beginning at 7 p.m.
  • Participants also agree, if selected, to assist with marketing efforts for Oaklawn’s Got Talent, which may include photography, videography, interviews, etc., for use online, Oaklawn’s social media accounts, television, radio, etc.
  • Participants must abide by all rules, terms, and conditions for this competition as determined by Oaklawn, which may change (including orally) at any time in its sole discretion. Oaklawn’s decisions regarding applications, auditions, performances, and all other elements of Oaklawn’s Got Talent will be final and binding.
