Be a mentor!

You can change a child’s life! Become a mentor to young people who have been impacted the addiction of a loved one.
We are in need of mentors and nurses! We have two camp opportunities:
Camp Mariposa
Camp Mariposa is a free weekend camp for 9- to 12-year-olds who have been impacted by the substance use disorder of someone close to them.
Camp is held six times per year; mentors are asked to commit to at least four and receive a $400 stipend per weekend. Time is spent with small groups of campers engaged in games, crafts and sessions on prevention. Camp starts at 5 p.m. Friday and ends at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Upcoming dates are:
- August 27-29, 2021
- October 8-10, 2021
- November 19-21, 2021
- January 28-30, 2022
- March 18-20, 2022
- May 6-8, 2022
Teen Camp
Teen Camp is an overnight camp for 13- to 17-year-olds, many of whom have graduated from Camp Mariposa. Teen Camp is also held six weekends a year. Mentors will receive a $300 stipend per weekend. Mentors participate from 5 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Saturday. Upcoming dates are:
- October 1-2, 2021
- November 6-7, 2022
- December 3-4, 2022
Nurses
Registered nurses are also needed for each program. The Camp Mariposa nurse earns $600 per weekend and the Teen Camp nurse is paid $500. The nurse must have a current Indiana RN license and be licensed to dispense medication to youth during camp weekends. The nurse is always required to be on site during the entire camp weekend and serves as a mentor when not engaged in nurse duties.
Nurse duties include:
- Pre-camp: Assessing applicants’ medical information before each camp and making recommendations on whether each camper is healthy enough to participate in the program.
- During the camp: taking and recording temperatures upon arrival, addressing camper illness, handling injuries and health emergencies, lice checks (when appropriate), dispensing medication, logging medication and handling all health-related issues.
Requirements
Background check and fingerprinting is required for all approved applicants. Mentors must also complete a training after a successful background check.
