Lakeview Drive Apartments Open on Oaklawn’s Goshen Campus
There’s a new place to call home in Goshen. Oaklawn leaders recently celebrated the opening of Lakeview Drive Apartments, marking a major milestone in expanding affordable and supportive housing for people in need across Elkhart County.
Developed by LaCasa, Inc. in partnership with Oaklawn, Bashor Children’s Home and other community partners, the Lakeview Drive community is centered on serving some of the area’s most vulnerable residents. The project brings 27 new housing units online to help people move into safe, stable homes with access to support that can help them thrive.
Homes That Support Healing and Independence
The first phase includes three newly completed buildings, each with a unique focus:
- Supportive housing units tied to Oaklawn’s services, providing a stable foundation for people managing mental health challenges and engaging in care.
- Housing for youth transitioning out of foster care, with wrap-around support services provided in collaboration with Bashor Children’s Home to help young adults build independence and long-term stability.
- Affordable housing units for individuals and families in need of safe, reasonably priced homes.
Oaklawn’s president and CEO, Laurie Nafziger, emphasized how stable housing and supportive services work hand-in-hand: “We know that people are a lot more likely to be willing to engage in treatment, stay in treatment and benefit from it in a way that doesn’t happen if they don’t have secure housing.”
Community Collaboration and Next Steps
The success of Lakeview Drive Apartments reflects broad community partnership and investment. Funding and support came from entities including the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), the City of Goshen, the Community Foundation of Elkhart County and NeighborWorks America.
Local leaders are already planning the next steps. A fourth building is in development to provide permanent supportive housing for older adults experiencing homelessness, ensuring even more residents have access to safe, stable living situations with the right mix of services and supports.
