Mauriah Calhoun, MSW

Time at Oaklawn: 7+ years

How has your career grown since you started?

I first started my career at Oaklawn in 2018 working as a case manager/skills trainer on the adult team. After going back to school and receiving a Master of Social Work degree, I began a new career working as an Addictions therapist.

What do you look forward to each day at work?

Continuing to be a help to those individuals who may not have anyone in their corner giving them the assurance needed to be the best version of themselves they can be each and every day.

What’s a memorable or rewarding experience you’ve had on the job?

When I was working as a case manager, I helped several clients become their own payee. This was rewarding because some individuals went from having a relative or close friend manage their money to learning the tools needed to manage their own funds.

What makes Oaklawn unique compared to other workplaces?

Oaklawn is unique because people who were once strangers became family, and for that I am forever appreciative of this agency as a whole.

What are some ways you feel supported at Oaklawn?

No matter who I need to talk to, they have an open-door policy. I receive positive feedback from my supervisor and coworkers. Words of affirmation go a long way with me and to receive that from the team I work with means a lot.

I also have experienced many life challenges and blessings while working here, like the passing of my father and having two kids. My team was supportive through everything.
