Therapist Specializing in Psychosis
Cristina Reyes, MSW, LCSW, CSAYC
Time at Oaklawn: 7+ years
How has your career grown since you started?
I started my career at Oaklawn right after completing my undergraduate degree, a BA in psychology from IU Bloomington. I worked for two years as a skills trainer in the community at local youth-serving organizations to provide support to youth who were identified as at risk and could benefit from early intervention to address mental health needs. I underwent training to become a Transition Facilitator in 2020, where I worked with transition aged youth for three years. I also decided to go back to school and pursue my master’s in social work. I worked full time while attending school part time and graduated from IUSB in 2023. I joined Oaklawn’s Insight team as a therapist, providing coordinated specialty care to individuals experiencing their first episode of psychosis.
What do you look forward to each day at work?
Working alongside my peers to collaborate and tailor each client’s treatment. I enjoy the work we do and look forward to the different challenges we take on together. I also look forward to providing services in Spanish to our participants and their families and providing psychoeducation to caregivers about psychosis.
What’s a memorable or rewarding experience you’ve had on the job?
Working with vulnerable, stigmatized individuals is rewarding because we get to walk alongside our clients and realize their recovery journey with them. We often hold the hope for recovery for clients and their families and it is a very special moment when you see them believe in their recovery for themselves.
What are some ways you feel supported at Oaklawn?
I feel supported as an individual but also as a clinician, thanks to the amazing supervisors I have had throughout my different roles at Oaklawn. I truly appreciate all the opportunities for professional development and growth offered here.
