Better Together: Group Therapy as a Way Forward

Join with local leaders to discover how group therapy can be a powerful resource for assisting individuals in getting access to support and positive treatment outcomes. Learn of the unique benefits of group therapy and the resources of group therapy that are available in the community.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Examine the current mental health needs both locally and nationally to evaluate the consideration for increased capacity for services.
  2. Identify the impact of evidence-based groups in improving outcomes and addressing capacity.
  3. Discuss the misconceptions of group therapy and how to effectively communicate with potential clients about group therapy.

About the speaker:

Jon-Erik (J.E.) Misz, MDiv, LCSW, lives in Goshen, IN, where he works as a licensed clinical social worker and clinical supervisor at Oaklawn Psychiatric Center. He holds a Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a Master of Divinity from Duke University. He has led discussions both locally and nationally on subjects such as trauma-informed care, anxiety and depression, and adolescent mental health. He facilitates Oaklawn’s Illness Management Recovery intensive group and developed the curriculum utilized in the Mindfulness and Meditation groups facilitated at Oaklawn. Leading groups are his favorite parts of each week.
